Twyford Community Centre
Twyford Community Centre was established with the objective of preserving the former Twyford Social Club building as a valuable community asset for the village, rather than allowing it to be sold for potential housing development.
The former Social Club has long played an important role in village life, providing a space for local events, social activities, and community gatherings. Protecting the building ensures that this important facility can continue to serve residents for future generations.
To achieve this, Twyford Community Centre has raised funds to support the purchase of the building, together with essential improvement works including significant roof repairs, general building improvements, and the safe removal of asbestos. These works are necessary to secure the long-term future of the property and allow it to be restored as a sustainable and welcoming community venue.
Twyford Heritage has played a major role in supporting this project and has raised more than £50,000 for the Community Centre. This support included a £3,000 grant to assist with legal fees during the purchase of the building, a further £6,000 grant towards building improvements, and a £30,000 capital contribution made in March 2026 to help fund the full repayment of Twyford Community Centre’s outstanding loans.
As a result, Twyford Community Centre is now debt free and generating a small operating surplus, thanks in large part to the dedication, hard work, and generosity of many local volunteers who have helped secure its future.
However, further fundraising is still needed to complete additional building works, particularly the removal of asbestos and other essential improvements required to fully restore and enhance the building for long-term community use.
This project represents a major investment in the future of Twyford, ensuring that an important village building remains in community ownership and continues to provide social, recreational, and charitable benefits for local residents for many years to come.
